Free HDD LED is a simple tool that displays an activity LED for each of your hard drives.
The LEDs can be displayed in a tiny window that you can position anywhere you like on your desktop. Or if that's not convenient, a right-click option will minimise them to the system tray.
And you can also customise the LED refresh rate, hide the system tray icon entirely, or access other configuration options from the program's right-click menu.
It's all very straightforward and easy to use, but unfortunately the resource use is a little higher than we'd like, with the program grabbing 16MB of RAM (private working set) on our test PC.
Version 2.1.0:
- New vertical window style: drives can be shown in vertical mode (as requested by many users). Option can be found in the Window Style menu
- Removed the donate logo for the unregistered version
- Recompiled with Vistual Studio 2017 / Framework 4.5
Verdict:
A simple, if mildly resource-hungry way to monitor hard drive activity
