While very functional, burning discs at your computer is hardly the most exciting thing you can use your hardware for. Once you have got into the habit of burning data to CD and DVD, you think nothing of running off a copy of your latest holiday photos, but for newcomers the entire process can be rather bewildering. Hamster Free Burning Studio is a free disc burning suite that boasts an ultra-friendly interface that will not be off-putting to even the most nervous novice.
The free version of the program can be used to create and copy CDs, DVDs, Blurays and ISO images, and a simple, clean selection screen greets you to enable you to choose what task you would like to perform. If you are copying a disc, you will be guided wizard-style through the process, but there is a more hands-on approach to create a data disc.
You can opt to drag and drop folders or files into place, or you can navigate through the contents of your drive, selecting what you would like to add as you go. You also have the option of working in mini-mode which reduces the size of the program window to a minimum and leaves to you work in drag and drop mode.
Unlike many disc burning tools that have a very utilitarian and often intimating interface, Hamster lives up to its cute and fluffy name. The interface is about as inviting and unintimidating as it could be, and there are a number of colour schemes to choose from.
Verdict:
Simple, cute and useful, this is an ideal beginner’s burning tool that has the basics covered.
