Apple’s Mountain Lion update to OS X has received positive reviews on the whole, but this does not mean that there is not room for improvement. Whether you are a newcomer to OS X or you have moved to Mountain Lion after working your way through previous version, there are almost certainly aspects of the way it looks or works that are not entirely to your liking.
Mountain Tweaks is a free tool that can be used to iron out irritations, providing you with a wide range of tweak that will ensure that the operating system is set up exactly to your preferences. Despite the name, this is a tool that can be used in both Lion and Mountain Lion, but there are some tweaks that can only be applied to the newest version of the operating system.
Some of the tweaks that can be applied help to make Mountain Lion easier to use, or generally more useful. The ability to show hidden files is handy as is the ability to choose whether permanent scrollbars should be displayed or not. There is a new Stack view to work with and if you find that Gatekeeper is more of an irritation than a useful security feature, you can quickly disable it if you prefer.
From an aesthetic point of view, Mountain Tweaks also gives you a large number of options. If you are not keen on the leather look of Contacts and Calendar, it can be removed, and you can easily switch between a 2D and 3D version of the dock. These are just some of the tweaks you can apply with the app; there are many more for you to discover and more to be added as the software continues to undergo development.
