The 1980s were famous for the slew of arcade games that flooded the market, and few were more popular than the shoot-em-up genre. Spawned from the likes of Space Invaders, a huge number of games emerged with a similar theme in which the aim was nothing more complex than shooting alien spacecraft out of the sky.
Arcadia was one such derivative game that found its way onto the ZX Spectrum. Now a computer compatible port has been developed so you can relive your youth on more modern hardware.
There are versions of the game available for Mac, Windows and Linux, and while the gameplay has been left untouched, the graphics have been updated slightly so give it a more polished look.
With gameplay stripped backed to basics, Arcadia is one of a handful of titles that have stood the test of time. While it is far removed from the games of today, playing it for just a few moments is enough to result in addiction.
Verdict:
A simple, fast-paced shooter that has stood the test of time and has ported well to newer platforms.
