The interest in ebooks took a little while to gain momentum, but there are now a number of dedicated ebook readers available as well as web sites selling digital books. Apple's iPad, with its large touch screen, is an ideal device for reading electronic books, and this is what iBooks makes possible.
The app is also compatible with iOS devices running iOS 4.0 and it provides access to a growing online library of literature. There are a range of free and paid for title available, and the store can be access from within the app itself. Any purchases you make are arranged on a virtual bookshelf for easy browsing.
With a book or two download, navigating through pages is a simple matter of flicking your finger across the page, and books can be customised in a number of ways - adjusting font size and colour, changing screen brightness - to ensure maximum legibility.
Notes and bookmarks can be added to books and these can be synchronised with other devices on which you have installed iBooks. With a built in dictionary, narration options, integrated search ad more, iBooks looks set to revolutionise the book world.
