PagePlus Starter Edition is a free desktop publishing package that makes it easy to create a range of professional documents.

The program includes pre-built design templates for brochures, business cards, compliment slips, flyers, letterheads, menus, newsletters and posters, for instance. Just double-click the template closest to your needs, replace the default content with your own, and you're ready to go.

You need more control? Then create a blank document in a common size (A3, A4, A5, Letter, Legal, Tabloid and so on) or type (booklets, greetings cards, CD or DVD covers, more). Import whatever graphic you need: PagePlus Starter Edition supports 27 formats, including Photoshop PSD. Then use the WYSIWYG layout features, powerful drawing tools, built-in word processing and precise alignment options to build professional projects in minutes.

Well, probably. There are some limitations, though, unsurprising as the Starter Edition is entirely free. The most significant is that you can only create documents with a maximum of 5 pages. Others include a limited number of templates (the full version has many more), RGB-only colour management (CMYK, HSL, Pantone and Spot Colours are available in the full version), and several missing features. There's no support for PDF import or export, no photo editing tools or mail merge option, for instance.

The program is still perfectly capable of creating high quality documents, though, and if you need a free and very easy-to-use desktop publishing tool then it must come high on the list. If you need the extras, though, take a look at the full version: you'll find all the details on Serif's site.
