While functional, the notetaking app supplied with the iPhone is a little disappointing with no customisation options available. Awesome Note (+TODO) looks to remedy this by making it easy to manage notes as well as maintain a to do list, all from within the same app.

At its most basic, Awesome Note can be used to create a quick memo whenever needed, but notes can also be organised into categories for easy retrieval when required, and due dates can be added to act as a reminder. There is a great deal of customisation available in the program - from the ability to change the name of notes and defining your own categories, to applying background images and choosing font styles - and there are also various ways of viewing notes; in some instances, an alphabetical list may make sense, while in others it may be more sensible to order notes by the date they were created, or the priority that has been assigned to them.

Notes can be backed up to Google Docs as a safeguard, and a full text search facility complements the organisational options. It is currently possible to email notes from within the app, and in the next update, which will be free to upgrade to, photo attachments, hyperlink support and the ability to synchronise with Google Docs are also promised. Awesome Note is everything a note taking app should be - simple to use on a basic level, but bursting with extra features to make it stand out from the crowd.
