Web site compatibility has improved hugely over the years, but there are always a few sites that refuse to play ball with the browser you have decided to use. Generally speaking, most people like to stick to working with a single web browser – after all, if you have selected one as your favourite, it is annoying to have to use a different one just to access a particular site.
If you are a fan of Google Chrome and you have encountered web sites that do not load correctly, or maybe even do not load at all, you may find The User-Agent Switcher for Chrome to be helpful. This simple add-on is a user-user spoofer which can trick web sites into thinking that you are visiting using a completely different web browser.
Once installed, the add-on can be accessed to the right of the omnibar. Click the button and the drop down menu that appears can be used to select t5he browser you would like to pretend to be using. There are a number of browsers to choose from including both Mac and Windows versions of Safari, but the list is somewhat out of date – the most recent version of Firefox that is included in the list of 3.5 for example.
Even when the extension does allow you to take on the guise of the web browser you want, it is not a guarantee that problematic sites will load, and you may well find that additional problems start to arise. For sites the add-on does work with, you can opt to spoof a particular browser every time you visit it to save having to manually switch, but in reality you’ll probably find it is easier and more reliable to simply install multiple browsers.
Verdict:
The add-on is a nice idea, but the lack of recent updates and unreliable results mean that it is a hit and miss extension that you may fall out of love with.
