Almost every computer user has a music collection of some size stored on their computer. The process of ripping and downloading digital music has become significantly easier in recent years, but this does not mean that problem do not creep in from time to time. You may well have discovered that not all of your music has been correctly labelled or categorized, and manually fixing such issues can be a lengthy process.
Rinse is an application that can be used to analyze your iTunes music library and check for incorrect details, duplicate tracks, missing album art and more. All of these problems can be fixed for you automatically – if you have a large music collection you may want to leave Rinse running over night – but you can also take the manual approach and confirm any suggested changes to your tracks.
Rinse is an Adobe AIR application that can be accessed as a standalone app, but also adds a toolbar to iTunes so you can access its options from there. If you’ve found that the number of genres in iTunes is almost the same as the number of albums you have, the tool can be used to combine genres to keep these numbers to a minimum and allow for easier library navigation.
Manually fixing problems such as missing album art or track misspellings could take you hours to complete, but Rinse does an excellent job of comparing your collection with an online database to determine just what information you are missing or need correcting. Available for both Windows and Mac, Rinse is worth checking out.
Verdict:
An effective tool, but one that is a little expensive considering how often it will be used.
