Get Linux is a small Windows tool which makes it easy to locate, find out more about and download more than 130 Linux distributions.

At its simplest you can use the program as a quick way to download a distribution you know already. Just find it in the list, choose the 32 or 64-bit option, click Download and you're done. (Well, subject to the usual download times, anyway.)

You can also use the program to browse some of what the Linux world has to offer, though. Scroll down the list and you'll see "Qimo 4 Kids", for instance - what's that? Selecting the distribution will give you a screen shot, brief text description and some basic details (version, download size and so on). And there are also quick links to each distro's website, its entry on DistroWatch.com, and a YouTube search for any relevant videos, which can all help you to find the right distro for you.

And if you click "Settings" then there's even an option to have the program burn your ISO image to disc once it's been downloaded, so your chosen distribution will be ready to go with the absolute minimum of effort.

We have a few small issues with Get Linux, mostly with regard to finding distributions. If you're a Linux novice then you'll want to filter the list in various ways: you might want to look for distros with the smallest file size, for instance, or those targeted at beginners, or with some other specific purpose in mind. But all Get Linux really lets you do is search by file name, so instead you have to click on each distro in turn and read the description - not as helpful as it could be.

Still, if you're already interested in Linux and Linux-based tools, though, the program provides an easy way to find and download whatever you need, and it's definitely worth a closer look.

Verdict:

Searching and filtering options could be better, but otherwise Get Linux is a straightforward Windows utility which makes it easy to find and download the distro you need
