DVD Slim Free is a basic tool for creating CD, DVD and other covers.
The program supports a lot of cover types. There are various CD/ DVD box sizes, mini CD/ DVD covers, Blu-ray, Wii, PlayStation 3, VHS and other sizes, and to get started all you have to do is choose the right one from a list.
To add text, just click the Text icon on the toolbar, choose your font size and style, then add the front and edge text you need.
You can also add your own images in a click or two.
While the program doesn't include any templates, it does have links to various websites to help you find specific covers online.
And when you're done, a simple Print option will send the design to the printer for you.
This is all very, very simple. You can't manipulate the design much, you can't save or export it as an image, you can't really do much more than the few options we've described.
And there are occasional technical annoyances. We chose the English language option when installing, for instance, but the licence agreement was still displayed in Italian.
The program is still useful as a quick and easy way to create basic covers in various sizes, but otherwise there's nothing too surprising or interesting here.
Verdict:
DVD Slim Free can help you create covers for a lot of different box types, but otherwise it's decidedly short on features and functionality
