If all of this sounds too much like hard work, the appropriately named Fats Shutdown could be just what you have been looking for.

This tiny, portable executable file can be used to shut down your computer with a minimum of fuss – just double click the executable and you’ll be shut down in a flash. To help make things even easier and faster, you can stick a shortcut to the app in your system tray for one-click access.

By default, Fast Shutdown will perform a ‘safe’ shutdown of your computer, but there’s also the option of performing a forced shutdown. The program has not UI, so in order to switch to this mode you have to get a little hands on and create a file called Fast_Shutdown.ini which contains the line force=y.

This is a program you will want to use with caution as you will not be prompted to save your work, but for those times when you just want to get out of Windows, it enables you to do so as quickly as possible.
