Document Metadata Cleaner is a free tool which removes metadata from older Office documents (doc, xls, ppt, not docx, xlsx or pptx).

The program installs without hassle, no adware or marketing worries. And clicking Analyze allows you to start the reporting process. Decide which documents you'd like to check (Word, Excel, and/ or Powerpoint), point the program at a file or folder, click Next, and you'll soon be looking at a list of files, along with some of the data they contain.

Clicking Clean Files then allows you to process them, and you get to decide exactly what to do. There are options to clear the Title, Subject, Keywords and Comments, for instance; reset the Author, Company, Template name, revision count and editing time; and you can remove the revision log, wipe the Recent Hyperlinks list, strip out the document GUID, and more. Select some or all of the options on offer, and you can delete them with a click.
