Picturelife is a client application (Windows, Mac, iOS, Android) and web service which makes it easy to back up and share your digital images and videos to a free 5GB of storage space. (Paying $7 a month or $70 a year will get you 100GB of space, while 300GB can be yours for $15 a month or $150 a year.)

Setup is straightforward. Enter your name and email address to create a Picturelife account, choose whatever folders you'd like to sync, and that's essentially it: the program just runs in the background, automatically uploading any new images or videos to your account as necessary.

Once everything is set up, browsing "All Pictures" on the Picturelife site will display thumbnails of your entire collection. You can view individual images, rate them, see them on a timeline or a map (if they contain location data), organise them into albums, and more.

Cloud integration means Picturelife can work with your social accounts (YouTube, Facebook, Flickr and so on). It can automatically back up your accounts as new images appear, or you can post images directly to them from the Picturelife site.

Good file format support means you can work with most RAW file types just as easily as JPEGs.

If you currently manage your images locally via iPhoto, then good news - Picturelife understands iPhoto's library, album and rating schemes, so uploading the pictures won't mean losing their structure.

And there are plenty of sharing options, too. Albums can be private, shared with particular contacts or made entirely public, for instance, while the ability to create Friend and Family streams will automatically keep you updated with media taken by your contacts.

Verdict:

It can be a little expensive, but if you're able to live within the 5GB free space - or just don't mind the price - then Picturelife will prove an excellent image storage service with lots of useful photo management and sharing features
