QOwnNotes is a versatile open-source notepad and to-do list manager.
The strong core editor handles rich text notes, with images, hyperlinks, tables and text styling. You can create documents by clicking buttons and menu items, or entering markdown, and the results may be exported as PDF or HTML.
You're able to organise your notes into folders and subfolders, and insert hyperlinks from one page to another, creating a basic wiki-like structure.
A simple to-do list manager supports syncing via Calendar Plus, a self-hosted ownCloud calendar or some other CalDav server. Built-in AES-256 encryption keeps your data safe, wherever it might be.
This enables sharing via any desktop (Windows, Linux and Mac), along with Android and iOS devices if you install an ownCloud-compatible app.
There are all kinds of supporting features, including import from Evernote, scripting, workspace management, a "distraction free" mode and more.
By default the program gives you several choices over how to do any individual task, and there are a host of configuration options if you need them. You don't just get to customise the 200+ keyboard shortcuts, for instance-- every element of every menu can be reorganised as required.
Verdict:
QOwnNotes is a very powerful note-taker and to-do list manager. It's easy enough for beginners to use, at least at a basic level, but the real value here is in its configurability and the power to set up your own personal note-syncing cloud server.
