Microsoft's "Windows 10 Creators Update" is a big feature update for Windows 10. It's out officially on April 11th and it's probably safest to wait, let someone else discover the initial problems-- but if you're feeling brave the Update Assistant will let you install it now.
The download link gets you the usual update wizard. Run it, follow the instructions and it downloads and installs the Creators Update.
While this should go smoothly, there are no guarantees and you should take precautions, in particular backing up your system before you start.
If you've not read about the Creators Update, it's a very major release which adds lots of functionality throughout the OS. These are a few of the highlights.
New 3D support stretches from creating 3D objects in a Paint 3D app to adding support for "mixed reality", " immersive experiences that blur the lines between the physical and virtual worlds" (if you've the right VR kit).
Microsoft Edge has been enhanced with more tab management abilities, EPUB support, Jump Lists, WebVR and more.
Game Mode aims to improve performance for demanding games, and built-in Beam support enables broadcasting your gameplay without any extra login hassles.
Windows Hello can now remotely lock your PC whenever a paired device - a smartphone, fitness band, anything you can pair with your computer- moves out of range.
The Windows Defender Security Center aims to give access to all your key security settings.
The Mini View feature keeps a compact view of an application window on top of others, handy for videos or any dynamically-updated information you need to watch.
A Night Light feature acts like f.lux and other freeware apps, reducing the blue light from your screen to help you sleep better.
And the list goes on. Check out Microsoft's official blogs for more.
Verdict:
A simple way to get Windows 10 Creators Update early. Beware, though, this could lead to problems, and even if they're very small - a program no longer works exactly as you expect - you won't get much help until others have tried out the update, too.
