Text Fairy is a popular Android OCR app which extracts text from an image, then allows you to edit or save it.
Point the app at an image - a photo of a page, say - and you're able to crop it to the area containing text. Text Fairy can correct the viewpoint and straighten text for maximum accuracy, before extracting it for you. (The app uses an Android version of Tesseract as its OCR engine.)
Accuracy is good, with the app automatically recognising printed text from more than 50 languages.
If there are problems, you can fix them by editing the text.
Once you've finished, the app can copy any or all of the text to the clipboard, or save it as a PDF file.
This is all fairly straightforward, but if you need a very brief look at the app in action, there's a video clip here (it's under a minute long).
What's New
• Improved user interface for text to speech.
• Fixed bugs.
Verdict:
An easy to use OCR app. Take a photo of any page and you can have the text extracted in a few seconds.
