Saladin is a straightforward dual-pane file manager for Windows.
The program opens with two independent Explorer-type views on your file system, and both work just as you'd expect. Double-click files to open them; right-click to access the Explorer content menu, double-click folders to navigate through your drive; multi-select files with the keyboard, and drag and drop to copy or move files from one folder to another. You'll be using the program right away.
Tiny buttons to the right of each pane display a history and a simple bookmark tool. You're able to easily step back through folders you've accessed recently, or add the current folder to a Bookmark list for speedy recall later.
There's another bonus navigation feature in the ability to set a custom Home folder for each pane. If you always copy to a particular backup folder, for instance, you could make this the home for the right-hand pane, but use something else entirely on the left.
The toolbar displays buttons, text descriptions and (sometimes) a keyboard shortcut, again making it easy to understand how the program works.
The toolbar has View, Edit, Copy, Move and Delete buttons, for instance. These all work as described (multi-select files, hit Move to move them somewhere), but many have additional options. The Copy and Move function can copy files to the destination folder or clone them in the source; the View function supports viewing multiple selected images or plain text files; Delete can move files to the Recycle Bin, or delete them permanently.
There are bonus tools to open a console window at the current folder, pack files into a ZIP, run simple searches and - if all else fails - open and use Explorer, instead.
Verdict:
Saladin looks a little basic, and it doesn't quite always work as you'd expect (you can't multi-select files by dragging with the mouse), but overall it's a likeable file manager with some time-saving functions and features.
