The prevalence of smartphones kitted out with high resolution cameras means that just about everyone has a large collection of photos. Posting to the likes of Facebook and Instagram, it's easy to apply filters and effects to make your shots look as good as possible, but a dedicated photo editing tool is what you need if you want to take your tweaking and optimisation to the next level.
Movavi Photo Editor is one such tool and it is billed as an easy-to-use tool that gives results quickly. While this is perhaps not the most feature-packed photo editor on the market, there are a reasonable range of tools for you to play around with; some are automated while others require more in the way of manual tweaking. It's nice to see that there are various tutorials and tips built into the program so the first time you move to a new section or activate a tool, you'll probably get a helpful, introductory lesson to get you started.
In addition to basic editing options such as cropping, resizing and colouring, Movavi Photo Editor has some interesting advanced options including the ability to remove objects from photos and to change backgrounds. As this is a photo editor, it should come as no surprise that there are quite a lot of tool designed to improve the appearance of old photos by removing tears and scratches – although sadly you don't have a great deal of control over the optimisation process.
There are also numerous special effects and filters that can completely change the look of an image in a few click – but again there is little control over the finished look when using these tools. For anyone who is unfamiliar or uncomfortable with more advanced, more hands-on editor, Movavi Photo Editor serves as a great compromise, making it possible to get great results without having to go to too much effort. Advanced users, or anyone with particularly high expectations, however, is likely to be slightly disappointed.
The interface for Movavi Photo Editor is a little confusing. On one hand it looks very clean and uncluttered, but on the other the lack of labels on the main toolbar mean that it can take quite some time to get to the tools you need.
Verdict:
While it's hard to fault Movavi Photo Editor's ease of use and impressive output, it remains a relatively simple and limited tool – and it's hard to justify the price when you consider the competition the software is up against.
