People are increasingly looking for more powerful security and privacy feature in their web browsers, and this is precisely what Avast Secure Browser for iOS offers. There are a number of important features that should be pointed out, but the integrated VPN is probably the highlight, and what makes the browser noteworthy.
Despite the fact the app is available free of charge, there are no data limits imposed on the VPN component. This means you can used it as your daily browser without fear of ever hitting a limit and no longer being able to browser securely. That said, there are limitations that are worth mentioning. In the free version of the app, you have no control over where VPN traffic is routed through – Avast Securer Browser will simply connect you to the fastest server based on your location.
For most circumstances this is not a problem, but there will be times when you want to be able to connect to a specific server in a certain country. To be able to do this, you will need to upgrade to Avast Secure Browser Pro which is available for various prices. One month of Pro access costs $4.99, while three months costs $8.99, and a full year is $19.99.
But besides the VPN component, there is much more to Avast Secure Browser. There's also full data encryption with AES-256 and the latest TLS/SSL cryptographic protocols for the data transport layer. On top of this, there is a built in adblocker, a tracker blocking, as well as an encrypted vault for storing download files.
You may find that there are times when you need to have different settings in place, depending on what you are doing online. To make this easier, Avast Secure Browser lets you configure various browsing modes so you can quickly switch between profiles when necessary. It is even possible to apply different browsing mode, and different security and privacy settings to different tabs.
If you're already using the browser on other platforms, it is possible to synchronise bookmarks and browsing history, although this is something that cannot be done on macOS. During the sync process, all data is end-to-end encrypted to ensure security and privacy.
Verdict:
If you're in the market for a new mobile web browser – particularly if privacy and security are among your concerns – you could do much worse than give Avast Secure Browser for iOS a try. For many people the free version of the app with some limitations on the VPN will be sufficient, but for anyone who is looking for greater control and protection, upgrading to the Pro version of the app is not expensive.
