Audio editor Wavosaur gets first update since 2013

13 August 2016, Mike Williams

WavosaurWindows audio editor Wavosaur (and 64-bit edition) has just been updated to version 1.2, its first release for almost three years.

One handy new feature is real-time spectrum analysis. Click Tools > Spectrum Analysis, Display > Autorefresh and you can watch your waveforms update as the music plays.

A new Keyboard Shortcuts editor allows any of the program’s 46 hotkeys to be replaced.

A “time bar” above the waveform of your audio file shows the location of the current cursor position and the selected area of a file. Even if you’ve zoomed in on some tiny detail, a glance at the time bar will show exactly where you’re working.

The official release statement also mentions non-specific bug-fixes, optimizations, and “more funkiness” in general, which has to be a good thing.

At last! The Spectrum Analysis feature isn’t rubbish

Overall, the program remains a very likeable audio editor: compact, portable, reasonable audio format support (MP3, OGG, WAV, more), all the standard cut/ copy/ paste/ delete/ mix tools, special effects and VST support to add even more.

Okay, we’d also like FLAC support, and an interface that didn’t look ten years old, but Wavosaur still delivers way more than most of the free competition– go check it out immediately.

Wavosaur is available for Windows XP and later.
