Binary Fortress Software has released DisplayFusion 8.0, a major update of its multi-monitor management tool for Windows. Available in both free and Pro versions, version 8.0 focusses on fixing numerous bugs for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, but does introduce some new features.
Chief among these is a new Triggers feature, which replaces the previous Windows Location feature, promising to be more robust and flexible. There are also updates to the program’s wallpaper tools as well as changes and other bug fixes.
Triggers is a feature designed to allow users to automate window management tasks, allowing users to create batch-like automations based on one of four events: window creation, window focused, DisplayFusion starts and DisplayFusion exits.
The feature can be fine-tuned to match a series of user-specified rules before running, such as matching filenames or window text, and can be limited to specific monitor profiles. Once triggered, users can then perform a series of actions, such as moving and resizing windows.
DisplayFusion 8.0 also adds a number of new online wallpaper providers and sources, including a My Videos source that allows users running Windows 8.0 or later to use videos and animated GIFs as wallpaper.
The new release targets .NET 4.0, and improves compatibility with StartIsBack and Classic Start Menu utilities. New ‘Reset All’ and ‘Enable All’ options have been added to the app’s Taskbar Notification area icon’s Multi-Monitors Taskbars menu, while users also gain a new context menu option to pause wallpaper image changes.
The new build also promises numerous compatibility improvements on Windows 10 machines that are connected to monitors with different scaling levels, and the DisplayFusion Photos Screen Saver has also been overhauled to include new options and fixes too.
DisplayFusion 8.0 is available as a free download for PCs running Windows XP or later. The download comes with a built-in 30 day fully functional trial before reverting to a cut-down free version. The full version can be purchased with licenses currently starting from $15 for a single computer (normal MSRP $25).
