WhatsApp has released WhatsApp Desktop, an official app for Windows 8+, and Mac 10.9 and later.

The new version is essentially a native client for WhatsApp Web, automatically syncing contacts and conversations from your mobile device.

This makes setup very easy, because the system handles almost everything itself. Launch WhatsApp desktop, scan the QR code it displays with your mobile (Settings > WhatsApp Web menu), and your conversations and messages are mirrored.

You could do much the same in a browser, but having a dedicated client brings some benefits, including native notifications and improved keyboard shortcuts.

WhatsApp Desktop is a free application for Windows 8 and later, and Mac 10.9 or later (you’ll also need a mobile device with WhatsApp installed).
