LogMeIn has announced that its free remote access product, LogMeIn Free, is being dropped. Or, as they put it, “we will be unifying our portfolio of free and premium remote access products into a paid-only offering”.
The product has been pulled today for new customers. The company says “existing LogMeIn Free host computers remain accessible for seven days from first login after January 21, 2014”. Keep that in mind, and don’t log in unnecessarily, as you’ll then only have a week to make new arrangements.
If you want to continue with LogMeIn then you’ll need to purchase a LogMeIn Pro subscription, which gets you remote access to two or more computers, remote printing, and apps for Android, iOS, Mac and Windows, amongst other benefits.
The regular “Pro for individuals” price is $99, although some users are apparently being offered a 50% discount. Log in to your LogMeIn.com account for details.
The free versions of Cubby and join.me are apparently unaffected by all this, but unsurprisingly there are still plenty of unhappy users protesting in the LogMeIn forums.
TeamViewer 9 is, of course, available now.
