The VideoLAN Organization has released VLC Media Player 2.0.7, a minor refresh of its popular open-source video player and streamer. VLC 2.0.7, which is also available for Windows users as VLC Media Player 2.0.7 (64-bit) and VLC Media Player Portable 2.0.7, fixes a number of bugs, some of which led to memory leaks and crashes.
VLC 2.0.7 opens with two input-related fixes: one that affects older PowerPC Mac users only (playback termination when switching ES tracks), and another that led to a memory exhaustion vulnerability when playing specifically crafted playlist files.
There are also numerous – and unspecified – decoder fixes for various audio formats, including WMA Pro, MPEG 4 ALS, APE, MLP and ADPCM-IMA4 playback. Similarly, “numerous” audio codec fixes have been applied on the encoding side too, with MP3 and AAC among those affected.
Those creating AVI files using VLC’s muxers will be pleased to learn a notable memory leak has been plugged, while Mac users should find the libvlc file is more stable when used with third party applications.
The update is rounded off with numerous translation updates – most notably Spanish, German and Simplified Chinese – as well as support for three brand new languages: Azerbaijani, Kirgyz, and Oriya.
VLC Media Player 2.0.7 is available now as a free, open-source download for Windows (32-bit), Mac and Linux. Windows 64-bit users can download VLC Media Player 2.0.7 (64-bit), while there’s also a portable build for Windows 32-bit and 64-bit.
