It has been another busy seven days for software releases, with the much anticipated final build of Firefox 7 hitting the severs. With improved memory usage and performance, this is a great upgrade to the popular browser. Firefox Portable 7.0 was also released, and the relentless Firefox update cycle continues with the release of Firefox 8.0 Beta 1, Firefox Aurora 9.0a2, Firefox 10.0a1 (Nightly) and Firefox 10.0a1 UX, which is a sideline project of Nightly, introducing a brand new Firefox user-interface.
Also released by Mozilla is SeaMonkey 2.4.1, a suite of internet tools including an email client, IRC client and web editor. Again a portable version is available in the form of SeaMonkey Portable 2.4. Rounding up Mozilla’s trio of releases is Thunderbird 7. This email client includes more tools than ever to help you to manage your inbox and while many of the changes amount to little more than minor tweaks, this is now a solid and impressive piece of software. Fans of portable software will be pleased to know that Thunderbird Portable 7.0 has also been released.
Skype 5.6 includes few changes and additions, but the introduction of in-call advertising will not go unnoticed. Android users can installed the updated Skype for Android 2.5 which adds support for enhanced video calls.
On the subject of video, MAGIX Movie Edit Pro MX has been updated with a strong focus on performance. The software is now able to make better use of multiple cores which can lead to some dramatic performance boosts. If you are looking for a slightly advanced range of tools, MAGIX Movie Edit Pro MX Plus has also been released for anyone looking to take their video editing to the next level.
Other creative software released this week includes Photoshop Elements 10 which brings some of the power of Adobe’s flagship Photoshop image editor to the consumer market. Upgraders can benefit from an updated version of the Organizer as well as a new selection of templates and guided help. Also from Adobe, Lightroom 3.5 includes support for a wider range of cameras and automatic fixes for known problems with particular lenses.
If you’d rather clean up your computer than your images, CCleaner 3.11 may be just what you have been looking for, along with support for Windows 8 – or CCleaner Portable 3.11 if portable software is more your thing.
Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 has been available for a little while, but if you would like to save some time the next time you reinstall your operating system, you may be interested in download the Microsoft ISO images that have SP1 integrated into the installer. Downloads are available for Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit, Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit, Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 32-bit, Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 32-bit, Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit and Windows 7 Professional SP1 32-bit.
