Speccy 1.09 adds support for Windows 7 SP1

01 March 2011, Nick Peers

Piriform has updated its system information tool Speccy to version 1.09. The update adds support for Windows 7 Service Pack 1, plus promises better hardware detection along with a number of minor bug fixes.

Speccy provides detailed system information about the PC it’s currently installed on. That means it does more than tell you how much RAM is installed, for example – it’ll also tell you how many memory slots have been populated, helping determine the computer’s upgrade capabilities.

Speccy 1.09 adds a number of new detections: CPU fan speed and virtualisation, motherboard voltages, graphics shader and performance levels, and OS hotfixes. It also promises improved stability of battery estimation and support for multiple network controllers.

There are stability improvements to the memory usage and RAM graphs, better recognition of Intel 64-bit instruction extensions and improved socket reading for Foxconn components. The Peripherals section features better filtering to prevent duplicate entries. Fixes include one which caused a crash when Speccy was run on a PC with no network controllers, while GeForce 260 GTX cards also benefit from various minor fixes.

Speccy 1.09 is freeware, and runs on Windows XP or later. A portable version is also available.
