TeamViewer 6 has just been released for general consumption. This remote control tool allows users to connect remotely to other computers over the internet and via local networks for various reasons: to provide remote support, remote access to a computer’s files or for collaboration purposes. Version 6 introduces various performance improvements alongside a number of new features.

Performance has been optimised to make connections between computers faster and more stable – particularly where company networks are concerned. The interface has also been tweaked to help differentiate between using the program in presentation mode and as a remote support tool. TeamViewer 6 is also now capable of automatically re-establishing a connection after a remote reboot or update, while end users can also protect their personal options using a password.

One major new feature is QuickJoin, which is aimed at those using TeamViewer for online presentations or meetings – it features an invite function that contains all the session data you need, enabling participants to connect to you at a time you specify. Once established, all the important functions required – such as VoIP, video, chat and the whiteboard – are immediately available to all attendees. The QuickJoin module can be customised further to allow participants to join your presentation quickly via a single click.

Those wishing to use TeamViewer for remote support will find the Custom QuickSupport module has been improved too, enabling you to bypass the need to exchange connection credentials before support can be given. It’s also possible to now exchange chat messages before the TeamViewer connection is established.

Finally, the TeamViewer Host can now be adjusted on an individual basis depending on your needs, allowing the end user to customise it with their own logo or text.

TeamViewer 6 is free for personal and non-commercial use – Premium and Business versions are also available. Anyone who purchased a licence after 1^st October 2010 is entitled to upgrade to version 6 for free, while there are discounts for existing users who upgrade before the end of the year.
