Kaspersky PURE 2 now available, with improved user-interface and KIS 2011 engine

03 November 2010, Mike Williams

Security company Kaspersky has released PURE 2, the latest version of their amazingly comprehensive, do-everything security suite.

Apart from the improved user-interface, topping the list of new features is an option to use a portable database within the program’s password manager.  In a few clicks you can now import your IE, Firefox and Chrome passwords and logins, and save these to an encrypted database on a USB flash drive. Which makes it very easy to keep your most confidential data secure, even across multiple PCs and laptops (although they will all have to have PURE 2 installed).

Other tweaks this time around include better controls for social networking sites within the Parental Controls module; faster backup performance; and a revamped interface that more clearly displays your security status.

While the portable password database will be useful to some, this still isn’t exactly a revolutionary update.  Still, when you consider the full Kaspersky PURE feature list, perhaps it’s not surprising.

With the suite already including antivirus, antispyware, a firewall, sandbox, phishing protection, a virtual keyboard, password management, data encryption, network monitoring and control, vulnerability scanning, identity protection, secure file deletion, disk cleanup tools, an ad blocker, and a bootable rescue disc, we would have difficulty thinking of anything else that could be added, too.
