Stardock’s Taskbar-replacement tool has finally been signed off for an official 2.0 release. ObjectDock, which comes in both free and paid-for versions, is an animated dock program similar to the one used in Mac OS X, and displays animated and dynamically sized icons for quick and easy access to your favourite shortcuts and other useful tools.
Version 2.0 introduces a plethora of new features, including a redesigned user interface to make things simpler to configure and set up. New skinning and visual effects include blur-behind and reflections, while functionality has been improved too.
Explorer Folder-Views requires Windows 7, and is designed to let you navigate favourite folders quickly and easily from ObjectDock, saving you the bother of using Windows Explorer. The two other standout features are sadly both exclusive to the paid-for Plus version: app-switching extends the Aero Peek preview window found on the Windows 7 taskbar to earlier versions of Windows, while tabbed-dock management has been improved too.
Tabbed docks allow you to divide up your dock into multiple categories for different uses. Version 2.0 sees a number of enhancements, all designed to make them easier to configure and identify. You can now re-organise docks simply by dragging and dropping them using the right mouse button – you can also now “tear” off individual tabs to place elsewhere on-screen. Tabs can also be renamed, coloured, removed or added using a simple right-click.
ObjectDock 2.0 is free for personal use, while ObjectDock Plus 2.0 costs US$19.95, and includes a number of exclusive features, including the aforementioned support for tabs and app-switching. Click here to download the free version of the program.
