It’s been a time of change for PC Tools over the last 12 months. Not only were they bought and integrated in to Symantec, but many of the original team have been moved on and replaced with Symantec employees. Not such a bad thing, it means they will share resources, virus definitions and technology. If you’re a bit PC Tools fan, you’ll still be able to keep your favourite software and be assured it will be updated for a long time in the future.
With this in mind, PC Tools have announced their 2011 range and most of the primary apps have been updated, they’ve introduced a brand new tool and ditched the old free Firewall. With most security suites including a free personal firewall, and many broadband routers shipping with a hardware firewall, the requirement for a standalone firewall has reduced in modern times. PC Tools realised that dev resources would be better spend on their other applications.
With their 2011 release, there are updates to Registry Mechanic (v10), Spyware Doctor (v8) and Internet Security. Each app has been updated with a range of new features – take a detailed look at the PC Tools homepage for more information – as well as receiving a more modern user-interface.
Most important of all, is the introduction of a brand new PC Tools application, Performance Toolkit. It’s a complete suite of software that will enable you to defrag your Registry, safely erase files from your computer, optimise your PC, defragment your hard drive and much more.
PC Tools AntiVirus Free also receives an update as part of the 2011 launch.
