The latest version of the official Twitter client for iPhone and iPad has been updated to version 3.1. Although the version number might suggest that this is something of a minor update, there is a great deal in store for iPad users.

Twitter 3.1 for iPad has a redesigned interface that takes full advantage of multi-touch gestures. The updated version of the app makes it easier to view information related to tweets, such as user profiles, videos and photos. When viewing a tweet, any related content is opened in a moveable panel that can be placed anywhere on the screen.

While the concept takes a little getting used to, you’ll soon find that it becomes second nature and that the new means of interacting with Twitter makes it much easier to flick between different aspects of a tweet.

By using a pinching gesture on a tweet, additional information and actions are displayed. This makes it easy to reply to a tweet, send a direct message to a user and perform a variety of other actions. Drag a tweet with two fingers and you can quickly access and replies that have been posted to it.

Twitter for iPad is almost a hybrid application in that it mimics many of the attributes of a desktop twitter client such as TweetDeck, but benefits hugely from the iPad’s touchscreen. The app can be downloaded from the App Store.
