The standard Windows “Photos” screensaver is a quick and easy way to create random slideshows of your own images, but it’s also very basic, with the bare minimum of features.
Endless Slideshow Screensaver uses the same core idea, but takes it much further, automatically building spectacular photo slideshows whenever it kicks in.
The program can import images from multiple local and network folders, for instance, and wide format support – including some RAWS – ensures it’ll display most photos.
An optional download feature enables the program to download and use images in your choice of categories: Animals, Artistic, Cars, Celebrities, Flowers and many more.
Endless Slideshow Screensaver uses some intelligence in its display, automatically rotating images to match their EXIF tags and positioning small pictures randomly if they don’t take up much screen space.
But if you’re the hands-on type, there’s an array of tweaks on offer: transitions, timings, picture size, rotation, frame, background colour, captions and more.
Unusual options include the ability to display multiple images at once in a configurable grid.
You can access all of these via the usual Windows Screen Saver applet (just click Settings), but conveniently they can also be launched from the Start Menu.
The basic program is free, but upgrading to the $19.95 Pro version adds some worthwhile extras: 200+ more transition effects, EXIF/ IPTC tag display in overlay text, filtering by file size and tag, unlimited wallpaper downloads per category (free is 50), slideshow navigation features (Next/ Previous/ Copy/ Delete keys), more.
Endless Slideshow Screensaver is available for Windows 7 and later.
