Until you have worked with more than one monitor connected to your computer, it is difficult to understand just how useful a multi-monitor setup can be – and once you have tried it, it is very difficult to go back to using a computer with a single screen. But working with multiple monitors can also be slightly problematic, and while the extra desktop space is incredibly useful, it can take some time to get used to the fact that programs and windows launch on different monitors. Dual Monitor Tools is a collection of tools for Windows that can be used to take control of your displays and make them work the way you want them to.
There are five individual tools included in the suite, and each one can be run separately so there is no need to use them all if you don’t want to. The simplest of the tools is Dual Wallpaper which makes it possible to choose between stretching a single desktop image across multiple monitor, or opting to use a separate image on each screen.
There are a number of programs that are no compatible with multiple monitors, games in particular. DisMon is a simple tool that makes it possible to disable a secondary displayed when a particular application is running to help overcome compatibility problems. Swap Screen is a handy tool that can be used to quickly switch what is displayed on each monitor, making the primary display the secondary and vice versa. Keyboard shortcuts can be configured that can then be used to quickly move the mouse cursor from one screen to the other, move the active window or program to the other monitor and much more.
One problem that many users have with multiple monitors is that it can be difficult to click on screen elements that are positioned at the ‘join’ in the two desktops. Swap Screen also includes the option to slow down the cursor at the edge of the screen to make selections and clicks much easier to perform accurately. The two other tools in the suite are Dual Launcher that can be used to choose which monitor applications should be launched on and Dual Snap which can be used to take screen captures of your desktop.
Dual Monitor Tools is available free of charge, and you can find out more by visiting the program’s review page.
